Twitter is crediting the growing success of sports betting in more than 30 states where such gambling is allowed to its own platform. This is the first time that the social media company has released insights into the role of Twitter in sports betting. Without its presence, the amount of betting that takes place in these states would likely be lower.

A study conducted recently by Twitter Insider found that 70% of sports bettors are active on the social media platform. Of these individuals, one in three reported that being active on Twitter has led them to wager larger amounts than previously. Additionally, data shown suggests that sports bettors on Twitter spend an average of 15% more on betting every year than those not on the platform. PointsBet is among the most active sportsbooks on Twitter, where users come to gain betting insights, catch up on the latest news, and see predictions, drama, and memes.

Over the last few years, as more and more states legalize betting and the stigma associated with it is slowly fading away, the amount and quality of content dedicated to sports bettors has skyrocketed. This is according to a statement from Twitter to Casino.org. In addition, the Twitter Insider report provides a key insight: bettors view Twitter as the best social media platform to get access to the newest information about odds, injuries, lineups, and predictions. Staying in the game and the conversation has never been easier!

In the Game, In the Conversation

With its motto of “Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now,” the social media platform is a key spot for finding up-to-the-second sports betting news. Seeing the buzz on the platform can lead many bettors to fear not being in on the action — known as “FOMO.” The company finds that 65% of sports bettors on Twitter wager on games as a result of this social conversation. Twitter is also seen as the best sports betting source by almost four in 10 users because it is a combination of odds content from the bookmakers and insights from fellow bettors. After a bet is placed, more than 70% of users still regularly check Twitter for updates on the status and outcome of their wager.

Sportsbooks are using Twitter actively.

Sportsbooks Active on Twitter

In recent years, the impact that Twitter has had on the US sports betting industry has been evident. Many leading operators, such as DraftKings, BetMGM, PointsBet, FanDuel, and Caesars Sportsbook, have upped their social media presence to keep bettors engaged with regular updates on their odds and spreads, as well as funny memes and polls. Even more, they have launched publicity stunts centered on their Twitter platforms. For instance, DraftKings recently invited its Twitter followers to share what they are most excited about regarding the book’s launch in Kansas, and plastered the winning tweets on billboards across the state.
