Sgt. Harnett's killer selects trial by judge and jury
A trial date has been set next month for the 18 year-old man who has been charged as a young offender in the hit-and-run death of a Calgary police officer.
Al-Azan Shah Muhammad, who was 17 at the time, tried to pull an SUV over after its plates didn’t match its registration.
When the license plate did not match the registration the individuals attempted to flee the scene. Harnett was dragged by their vehicle until he was hit by another car. He later died in hospital. Harnett's funeral was held on January 9th.
At the beginning of his trial, Muhammad was represented by duty counsel during his bail hearing. A trial date is expected to be set for June 4.
