Conservatives have secured an emergency debate in the House of Commons regarding cancellation of Enbridge Energy’s Line 5 Pipeline. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has threatened to cancel the easement for Line 5, which would shut down the pipeline and have a devastating impact on Ontario, Quebec and Alberta’s economies. This move is also in violation of the Transit Pipelines Treaty, which President Biden supported when he was a Senator.
“For months, Conservatives have been calling on the Liberal government stand up for Line 5,” said Peace River – Westlock MP Arnold Viersen. “On February 26, I directly asked the government when they would pick up the phone and call the US President. The government assured me that they were making calls.
“Yet here we are, days away from a shut down and both the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister are avoiding opportunities to advocate for Line 5 on calls with US President Biden. We need our Prime Minister to speak directly with the US President to quickly and efficiently ensure the continued operation of Line 5.”
The pipeline is responsible for thousands of jobs across Canada. The cancelation of the pipeline will cause large shortages of fuel across Ontario and Quebec. Enbridge Line 5 plays a key role in our national energy supply chain
“Canada can’t afford another Liberal failure like Keystone XL. We need to get Canada working again and Prime Minister Trudeau can’t pick and choose which jobs are worth saving.”
The emergency debate on Line 5 will begin tonight at 4:30pm MT and can be viewed live here: https://www.cpac.ca/en/. MP Viersen will be speaking at 7:15pm MT.
