In the 2020-21 fiscal year, revenues from online gaming in Manitoba rose dramatically, going up by $51 million. This is in contrast to the significant dip in casino and VLT revenues, as revealed in Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MBLL)’s end-of-year report. According to the report, casino revenues dropped by more than 85 per cent compared to the past year, losing an estimated $195 million. Since March of 2020, casinos in the province have been shut down for 282 days. The closure of VLTs resulted in a revenue decrease of $217 million. VLTs were closed for 195 days during the same time period. Manitoba’s casinos re-opened on July 17, 2020, at half capacity, and VLTs were allowed to operate again in restaurants and bars on the same day.

Casinos in Winnipeg, the provincial capital, will not be permitted to open until July 28, a delay of nine days.
