Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, two of the wealthiest individuals in the world, have been suggesting that the UFC-like steel cage fight that was openly discussed in June could be a potential reality.

Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have been teasing a potential fight in Las Vegas lately, and the UK’s oddsmakers have made Zuckerberg the front-runner in this hypothetical combat. The spark behind this heated rivalry was the unveiling of Threads, a new social media platform from Meta (another Facebook parent). In response to this, Musk, the world’s wealthiest man with an immense $232.5 billion net worth, mockingly tweeted that “[the] world can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb.” Additionally, this Silicon Valley tycoon has explained his $44 billion buyout of Twitter last year as an effort to neutralize the leftist censorship that he believes Zuckerberg has imposed upon modern-day “town squares.” (Image: TMZ)

Musk and Zuckerberg recently had an online squabble that ended with UFC President Dana White offering to host a “billionaire showdown” in the UFC Octagon in Las Vegas, with what White believes would be “the biggest fight ever in the history of the world”. It all started when a Twitter user told Musk he might want to be careful with his attacks on the Facebook founder due to his jiujitsu training, to which Musk replied, “I’m up for a cage match if he is.”, followed by a “lol”. Despite having a humorous note, the two have now teased about launching their own streaming platform.

Musk, Zuck Tease Streaming Platform

Elon Musk reignited the fight rumors this week when he announced on his X platform to his 152 million followers that he was training, saying he was “lifting weights throughout the day”. He also suggested the fight between him and Zuckerberg be live-streamed on his X platform with all proceeds going to veterans’ charities. Zuckerberg responded on his Threads account in regards to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign being hosted on Twitter, which crashed due to heavy traffic, asking why they shouldn’t use a “more reliable platform”. The billionaires’ bickering continue amid the hype of a potential fight.

Mark Zuckerberg said he was ready to go for a fight on August 26, which he suggested when Elon Musk first challenged him, but the latter had yet to confirm the date. “Not holding my breath,” Zuckerberg said, expressing his enthusiasm for the sport; regardless of what happens with this challenge, he will keep on competing with those who practice it. The chances for a fight to happen, however, seemed scarce.

Odds Scant

In the US, gaming regulators generally instruct an overseeing body to be in charge of a fight before permitting authorized oddsmakers to make a move. In Nevada, boxing matches and UFC mixed martial arts fights are managed by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Until now, the Nevada Athletic Commission has not been asked to supervise the Musk-Zuck clash if it were to happen. As a result, most states are still disallowing regulated sportsbooks from having a stake in the hypothetical battle. However, in foreign territories where regulations concerning unique events are usually more relaxed, bookmakers like Unibet in the UK have proclaimed Zuck to be the favorite with a probability of -250 (2/5).
